“We envision this event becoming a preeminent destination for celebrating Juneteenth in the state of Maryland and the DMV. Even more importantly, we believe the community connections from growing this Festival will help to improve lives and foster greater understanding in the years ahead.”

Celebrating the past and present of the first places African-Americans owned land, the Scotland community of Potomac, Md., delivered on its promise of creating the Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival in 2023! Spread across seven venues in six days, the historic festival was the most prolific of its kind in the DMV region.
Update this paragraph: With Juneteenth behind us for 2023, planning has already begun for the 2024 festival — with an even larger children’s carnival, more music performances, as well as art exhibitions, food, sports, and presentations on Black history in this region. The 501c(3) non-profit Juneteenth Scotland Foundation will also produce and partner in other events throughout the calendar year that will be focused on authentic community engagement, especially through faith-based organizations, as well as preservation of history, children’s education, and expansion of health and wellness resources for underserved communities.
For the remainder of 2023, our fundraising proceeds will continue to benefit the restoration and expansion of the Scotland AME Zion Church on Seven Locks Road, which flooded catastrophically in 2019. As we work toward 2024 and future years, our Board of Directors and advisory committee will be considering other communities in need.
We welcome any and all input, as well as donations of time and financial resources. Please reach out and become part of our movement toward a more equitable and welcoming community.
