2026 Festival Highlights

The 2026 Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival brought together more than 15,000 people for a powerful week of music, history, faith, culture, and community celebration. Once again standing as the DMV region’s largest Juneteenth event, the festival remained deeply rooted in the legacy of African American land ownership and resilience in the historic Scotland community.

The week began with a sold-out Opening Night Celebration at Bethesda Theater, headlined by Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Hezekiah Walker and featuring a powerful performance by the Howard University Gospel Choir. The evening was hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Allison Seymour and included remarks from Congressman Jamie Raskin and Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller.

Throughout the week, festivalgoers gathered for interfaith worship, fellowship, comedy, cultural programming, and opportunities to learn more about the history and ongoing preservation of the Scotland community. The celebration culminated on Juneteenth at Cabin John Regional Park, where thousands came together for a full day of live entertainment, local vendors, food, family activities, a community parade, and an evening fireworks display. Maryland Governor Wes Moore delivered the keynote address during the Opening Ceremony, joining elected officials, faith leaders, community partners, and descendants of Scotland in honoring the community’s past while looking toward its future.

The festival’s impact extended beyond the celebration itself. Six local organizations received community grants in support of their work, continuing the festival’s commitment to investing in organizations that preserve history, strengthen neighborhoods, and create opportunities for underserved communities. With record participation, growing partnerships, and increased regional visibility, the 2026 festival demonstrated the extraordinary power of bringing people together through history, culture, faith, and collective action.
